This book satirizes the idea of existentialism and religion. Based off the radio series the previous year. With the spread of atheism during the middle of the 20^th century this book mocks the idea of God and the meaning of life made this book extremely popular.

Jennings, G. (2005). The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. 

This movie was a recreation of the radio series and book series. Garth Jennings wanted to recreate Douglas Adam’s book/radio series. Being from England around the same time this series came out it is possible that he was inspired by it.
