Adaption Sources

Adaption Sources for the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) and the movie,
                                                                  The Wizard of Oz (1939)

"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, n.d. Web. 16 Feb. 2015.

This source is a look over of what the child's book by Frank L. Baum is about. It helps to capture the main details of what to expect.

Nagle, Mike. "Gender and OZ." Gender and OZ. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Feb. 2015.

I want to know about the gender roles and issues within The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The author has several female characters in his book. Both Frank Baum's wife and  mother-in-law campaigned for women's suffrage [the right to vote for women]. All women in the U.S. would be granted the right to vote when the 19th Amendment went into effect in 1920.

To know the main differences in the book and the movie is helpful to know how much has changed over the period of time from 1900 and 1939. This source may not have why Dorothy Gale in the book was only 11 years old and in the movie she was 17 (played by Judy Garland), but it gives the obvious and not so obvious overall contrasts.

  1. You need stuff on the time periods (both) and on the genre of the MGM musical of the 1930s.
