Another reason for the change is for a difference in attitude, Its pretty obvious the attitudes and mindsets of the two different human torches has changed. The attitude of the black human torch has a more serious attitude and look while the white human torch is much more playful and doesnt take things very seriously. This is also because of the change in culure and the effect of different phenomenons through out the 10 years. The movie attitudes shift with the way the world's culture is at that time and both movies reflect their cultures in that time period.
The Last reason is the cast reflects a certain type of audience in both movies. In the 2005 Fantastic 4, the cast brought in an older, white audience, while the 2015 fantastic four is directed at a younger, black and white audience. The change in the audience reflects the change from 2005 to 2015. There was a significant change in the racial cultures in the past 10 years, which is why you see the change in character.
Reading through your data your thesis seems pretty clear and I think it works. When you incorporate your research into your thesis your argument will be even that much better. Are there other instances throughout the movie where these instances of racism occur. Maybe bring those up as well. In your powerpoint you could include a bunch of different screen grabs from similar scenes in each movie to show the audience exactly what youre talking about and then throw in your research findings right after that. If the movie doesnt have similar scenes you could also talk about as your thesis things that were going on in each of the time periods in which the movies were made and see if there is a connection there.
ReplyDeleteReally good analysis and the points you made were very correct. Just like Haley said, maybe see if there's anything else that can be analyzed in detail. What you have is really good but there is potential for you to go much farther into it.
ReplyDeleteI love the comparison and the cohesiveness of your analysis. Haley is spot on as usual, however I feel that you may want to do some more in-depth research on the Fantastic 4 within the comic books. Look at release dates. Compare society back then to society now. Use the information to help strengthen your argument by allowing the audience to see exactly why race may have been a factor in both the original and the current Human torch.
