Morton- Pg. 16 Doug
This article has me on the fence in regards to the comments made and also the argument that Newberger is attempting to make. In order for me to analyze this article, I go back to when I first watched the Lion King 20 years ago. To a child, The Lion King is entertaining and as someone that LOVED The Lion King I didn't take any stock into the movie being racist or hierarchy based. Most children nowadays can watch Frozen which is their new Lion King and when you ask them what it's about they will tell you a brief summary of the movie. You won't be able to find a child that will tell you that Frozen proves that you don't need a man to be successful and that true love doesn't exist with boys but with family. Children watch movies and shows for the entertainment value and not to analyze. It's only with age and wisdom, that you watch movies and shows with more scrutiny where you can relate to it or relate it to our culture or society. You could also argue this by looking at the current class we are in; how well would a child do in this class?? This is slightly sad but children are innocent so they view movies in an innocent light, only people that are old enough to know that the world is full of evils is going to judge it more harshly. Therefore, the quote that Doug says, is absolutely true. Children would have no idea what hidden message is in the movie and they probably wouldn't get any of the main themes either.
