This is an article on Wikipedia that specifies the genre of Land of the Lost 1974. “The Marshalls become trapped in a pocket universe populated by dinosaurs, ape-like creatures called Pakuni, and anthropomorphic reptilian creatures named Sleestak. This article concerns these characters, along with other human and alien visitors to the Land of the Lost.” This is pretty obvious this is a sci-fi or fantasy genre.

Around 1975, aliens were a paranoia to people. It was always something that could be believable and people made it real to them also. There are stories after stories about people seeing aliens, and getting abducted. This was the genre around this time and that’s why Land of the Lost has this genre also. It was something that was relatable and something people could connect to in a simple way.

Will Ferrell. (n.d.). Retrieved September 24, 2016
Will Ferrell is a big contribution to this movie, and if you’ve ever seen multiple movies of his, he’s not in serious movies. He’s always in a comical movie and usually the main character. People watch his movies to get a good laugh and this website helps distribute that he’s a comedian.
WHAT DO THE BESTSELLERS OF 2009 SAY ABOUT US?. (2009). Newsweek, 154/155(26/1), 98
This is a scholarly article that I found on the TLU library website. This article says the genres of movies, books, and music in 2009. Everything was summed up as sex, violence, money, and religion. The 2009 Land of the Lost can be seen as a religious genre because of the time traveling and suspicious sci-fi genre. They also add Chaca because he’s horny and they also add the female specie of Chaca that comes out as “atrractive” and a lot of other examples.

Snyder, S. J. (2009). Brad Silberling: Behind the Scenes of. Retrieved September 24, 2016
I picked this because it helped me understand Brad’s thought process when making this movie in 2009. Dr.Rick Marshal the scientist (Will Ferrell), is obsessed with trying to get a time machine to work, which connects with the sci-fi genre. The actor himself, Will Ferrell, is known for humor. Brad said there were so many popular adventurous movies being produced, that he wanted to produce one, but stand out in a way. The way he did that was, he made an adventurous movie, but put all the wrong people in it. The ones who make the dumb decisions. Even though it is related to the old series, in a way it’s its own original.

This article helps sum up the genre of this movie. Why it is the way it is. “Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world—a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.”
