Monstress Chapter 4 - Summer Swift

  1. With the number of times you divided Kippa out from the rest of the comic, are you building an argument that the character of Kippa is somehow removed from the story, by virtue of her age and innocence or simply by being an observer? Is this a story that is happened AROUND her, as opposed to a story that happens TO her?

  2. The separation between Kippa and the main character seems to be both physical and emotional. Previously the main character saved Kippa, thus showing herself to be good, but in this scene that is subverted and called into doubt. I Kippa meant to mirror the audience and act as a greek choir of sort, commenting on and reacting to the actions of the main character or is she there for the sake of contrast.

  3. I liked the selection showing the differences in lines. You speak on the darkness of the lines on the page but by adding in Kippa and her lines are drawn one can truly see how the characters contradict one another. One being drawn so lightly and the other with dark and bolded lines. Making it seem as though there is a fight between light and darkness, good vs. evil. Although it may not seem that Kippa is a very strong character and just acts and looks like a Japanese anime character she has an impact on Maika. Think of Kippa as keeping the light within Maika, helping her control the darkness/monster inside of her.
