I'm not sure what you have in mind for what you wanting to analyze but you seem to focus on,or at least notice more on the shading of the character and background. Maybe if you wanted to elaborate more on that?
I definitely agree that in the panel 4 there is an element of pain being expressed, particularly by Sandman as he is drenched in ink. That element of pain carries over onto the next panel, as he remains drenched in ink. The lines of his castle in the first two panels are frail and thin. You could argue that this symbolize its fragility and weakness, a mirror of the Sandman's current situation. The top panel is definitely different from the rest of the panels on this page, it appears out of place.
I will concur that you seem to focus on the darkness of the scene and how elements of shading help reflect mood. Maybe you could continue to elaborate on some of this and study exactly why each character seems to be shaded/sad/pained
