These panels really show a disconnect between Luba and Archie but it also shows human nature. All women want to be respected and appreciated but at the same time we are nurturers so even though we may sense that a man is using us we don't want to disrespect them by disappointing them. This can also be argued for women that are in an abusive relationship- they stay in the relationship because even though they know they are being abused, they don't have the heart to leave them. The last panel shows Luba trying to reconnect and potentially save their evening by then recommending Archie meet her daughters.
ReplyDeleteI think a really good aspect you could focus on this the levels of abstraction and the lines, and what they convey about the characters. Between the third and fourth panel it looks as though the two have been together for a long time. This could be telling in how men treat the women throughout the whole novel. Does this scene depict a racist issue that the author is trying to sort out. Based on how they are drawn how how the words interact with the pictures you can argue a lot about the significance of Luba's relationships.
ReplyDeleteThe panels really show us the ammount if disconnect their is between Luba and Archie at this point. The amount of abstraction also shows us that the relationship seems tired in some way. I also think that this panel can be argued that the relationship does not seem to be a healthy one.
