Genre
Pop Music is derived from the term
Popular. The term describes music that
has become popular in the industry. Core
elements of Pop Music include a short to medium song in length written in a
verse chorus structure. Some songs can
contain repeated choruses, tunes containing a melody, and a section in the song
called a hook or riff.
Pop music originated in the 1950s and
evolved from rock ‘n roll. Pop music can
be classified under a multitude of other genres such as Rock, R&B, Country,
Punk, and Hip Hop, but True Pop or “Power Pop” consists of a song that is
around 3.5 minutes played on a bass, electric guitar and drums with the vocals
presenting a healthy chorus and a riff (hook) within the song.
Reggae Fusion is a mixture of Reggae and
other various genres such as pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and drum and bass and
classified as a subgenre. UB40 coined
the term of Reggae Fusion in the 1990’s.
Reggae Fusion gained popularity in Jamaica after continuous exposure of
the subgenre. The growth of Reggae
Fusion sparked controversy of the subgenre diluting the raw sound of
Reggae. Reggae Fusion has matured with
more artists experimenting with it.
Ok, but a little surface-level, most of this. Deeper stuff on genre, especially, needed.
