The Great Gatsby semiotics data

I will be looking at the party scenes between the 1974 film, and the 2013 film directed by Baz Luhrmann. First analyzing the scene in the earlier film, the first thing you notice is the kind of jazz music. During the early 1970's, a jazz/rock music mix was pretty popular which explains why this kind of music was used. However, compared to the music in the newer film, it is a more modern hip hop type of music. But it also tries to incorporate a jazz like sound to it. Either way, I feel this kind of music was included because of the popularity of hip hop music during the time of the making of the film. Using hip hop music can grab the attention of people who were to watch the movie today.
Another part of this scene I would like to point out is the party itself. One thing that is noticeable in the newer film is all the alcohol. Nick Carraway explicitly says that he intended to get super drunk. There is also tons of alcohol being drunk, and poured into peoples glasses all over the place. There are also people clearly acting drunk where you can see one woman swinging from a chandelier. As opposed to the older film, you can see drinks being poured, but there is nothing explicitly saying that it is alcohol being poured. There also aren't any obvious belligerent drunk partiers. I think this relates to how parties happen today. Most parties, especially rich people parties, involve alcohol and drugs in order to make it fun. While in older films and tv shows, you see rich parties being more of a laid back get together.
