Panel 1:
Abstract level: 4.5 because
the character is drawn well but there is good enough facial expressions but not
detail everywhere on the character.
Line: The lines are
smooth with no background. Very smooth on the characters.
Transition: Moment to
moment because it is a slow conversation between the characters.
Time: The time is slow because
it is during a conversation with the characters.
Word-image relationship: The
relationship is additive; without the words you can’t tell the characters
emotional state towards eachother or why.
Panel 2:
Abstract Level: 4.5 because
the character is drawn well but there is good enough facial expressions but not
detail everywhere on the character.
Line: Smooth lines with
no background. Characters are drawn well and with detail but smoothly.
Transition: Moment to
moment because they are carrying out a conversation.
Time: The time is slow
because they’re in a conversation.
Word-image relationship:
The relationship is additive because the words help the reader understand the
argument taking place and the facial expressions show they’re reactions to the
words being said.
Panel 3:
Abstract Level: 4.5
because the character is drawn well but there is good enough facial expressions
but not detail everywhere on the character.
Line: The lines look
smooth with random squiggly drawn lines in the background. Still look really
smooth though.
Transition: Moment to
moment because it shows both characters in the panel in conversation.
Time: The time is slow because
it is during a conversation.
Word-image relationship:
the relationship is additive because it helps the reader know there is a shift
in the argument by the conversation changing a bit and the expressions from the
characters changing.
I feel like you were right about the time slowing down during the conversation. Normally during a conversation time just bounces back and forth as both parties are contributing equally. I feel like during this conversation though the panels get bigger due to the heaviness of the conversation and the years of repressed unreleased words between the two could bring a heaviness to the atmosphere. I think the thesis could be something like the longer you keep feelings inside the harder it is to release them when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteHere's another cool page where the background changes within panels. In panel one there's no background, panel two is yellow, and in three is encompassed by what it would look like outside the window. You can make an analysis based on how the background relates to the emotions and words expressed in these panels. You could also talk about what the lines mean as the become harsher then softer as well as the sizing of the second panel.
ReplyDeleteI think you were right about the word-image. I think you can argue about how the words play a big part with the images.
