Growing up Lady and the Tramp was one of my favorite Disney
movies. I have always loved dogs so that is why I think I was drawn into this
movie. With the new film made in 2019 and the old film made in 1955 there are many
differences. I think they made these differences because of the huge time difference
from the movies and wanted to get their audiences best attention in genre. With
these movies being so far apart from when they came out the social history came
out to be different from it being okay to spank your child or animal when they
are younger rather than now it not being okay and you use words instead of
hitting. In the 1955 film darling slaps Lady for stealing her ball of yarn. In the
2019 film Darling calls Lady a bad girl for jumping on the couch.
1955 film: In the animated film came of forty-five years before
I was born so the culture in this time was much different than todays time. It was
more likely for someone to spank their children or dog for a punishment. This was
common to tell their children or dog what was right from wrong.
2019 film: In the live action film you do not see any spanking
due to the audience of this time. What the film does instead is telling Lady
that she is a bad girl. This is what you see more today with the punishment of
children and dogs. This is what parents use as their way of punishment rather
than spanking.
With bring this difference from the two movies is with the
cultural shock of the way they punished the dog. This is a children’s movie and
parents today do not want their children to watch this. Making the remake more appropriate
for the audience today with making this more culturally correct.
A suggestion for your overall thesis between these two films could be why spanking has go down over the years and why disciplining kids is important
