Creed- film techniques (53:00-54:14)Chris Johnson

Off- screen

You can hear Rocky say “1 step, 1 punch, 1 round” during that time of training but cannot see him in the screen.

Low

During the beginning of his training the camera angle is low, looking up at Adonis face.

Overhead

At the end of his training and Adonis and Rocky are both punching the bag the light is on top of their head and face which is overhead

Synchronous

Every breath Adonis takes and punch to the bag, you can hear the sound

Medium long shot (MLS)

This is happening when Adonis is punching the bag and Rocky is walking back and forth behind him.

Midground

When Rocky is watching Adonis lean up against the wall. He is the midground

This is a training scene and in it you can see Adonis is just starting his training at the new gym with Rocky and his crew. Within this scene you get the feeling of “we just getting started”. During one of the scenes, you can hear Rocky saying “1 foot, 1 punch, 1round , 1 step at a time” at the time showing how focus he wants/needs Adonis to get for him to be where he wants to be by the end of it. As the training scene moves along Adonis is starting to lock in and get really focused, you hear the sounds of trumpets as if you are walking into a crowd of 100,000 getting ready for battle as you say to yourself “it’s time”. Lastly Rocky is walking behind Adonis speaking to him; motiving him to keep pushing and get ready to show the world what you are made of.

  1. Chris, I liked your film analysis on Creed. I think you should have gone into more detail about more things than just the shot. For example, note the music or the lightning or the angles. And then, I think you should go into detail as to why you think the directors chose the specific things you pointed out.

  2. Chris, I really liked your analysis on the film Creed. I have never seen the movie personally, but I was able to understand the scene that you described which I really appreciated, as well as the visuals you included. I like your argument that the scene gives you the feeling of "we just getting started", and while the sound analysis you gave was really detailed and good, I think that it would be even better if you added more than just the sound analysis to give it even more of an explanation of your argument of the feeling that this scene invokes.
