Love and Basketball-

https://youtu.be/Tw6JwF6kvOM?si=JizPa-f9WDXuAJ9E

medium shot (MS)

During 1v1 most of the scene is filled with this shot showing everything

medium close up (MCU)

While talking to each other the camera flips back and forth to each character above the chest

big close up (BCU)

Half of the mans body is out of the frame, but still continuing to talk to the woman

extreme close up (XCU)

Shows the shot towards the end when they end the 1v1 and start to smooch

Track

The camera tracks their body while they shoot and follows the ball as it goes up into the rim

jump cut

From the outside of the window, to immediately going into the 1v1 scene on the basketball court

synchronous

The sound matches every action into the first scene of jumping out the window, stepping on the grass, bouncing the basketball, and shooting the basketball

This is like 99% of film sound.

onscreen

We can see the actions on screen that are with the sound that happens

This is like 99% of film sound.

The scene opens up with many medium close ups along with extreme close ups, while they talk outside the house the conversation seems to be tense and serious so as the camera is flipping back and forth into medium close up and close ups it gives the audience the effect of showing us what the characters are really feeling and the emotion behind every word, they say so it seems more important. The scene also has a jump cut from the conversation to them playing 1v1 on the basketball court. With a camera tracking their bodily movements from juking each other, shooting the ball, checking the ball, and catching the ball. There was a specific moment where the camera tracks where the man takes off his knee brace and the camera show every second of him removing it strap by strap, then throwing it to the side and continuing to play ball.

  1. Hey Gabe, I like the analysis but I think you should have either had pictures of each shot or had like a time stamp of each shot if you were watching your section of the film from youtube.
