This scene opens up with cross-cutting between the woman outside and the man in his house

talking through a window you can see the scene is a little tinted because it's night but, there is still some background light making this correct exposure. Once he jumps out to talk the camera is still cross cut, but this time it’s a close up on the character's faces to show emotion. This is a very serious conversation which is why it’s important for us to see their facial expressions. The next thing that catches my eye is the camera pan when the man tries to walk back to the window and is stopped by the woman. It was important for us to watch the girl chase after him to stop him. Then a simple jump cut to them playing one on one. Something that surprised me while playing one on one was the handheld movement. It caught my eye when the man took off his knee brace. It’s rare to see handheld camera movement in films, which is why it caught me off guard. The music then fades in and the camera zooms in on the woman’s face to show how much she cares and that she really wants to win. The film uses slow motion to emphasize how important this last possession of the game is. Then to end the scene they have a close up of the woman crying because she lost, some cross cutting as they walk towards each other then finally a close up as they kiss.

Overall theme for this segment is true love. The women and the man both knew how was going to win the 1 on 1 and it wasn’t about winning or losing it was about fighting for what you love.

  1. hey chris, I like the way you explained the one shot but, in my opinion you should have used multiple shots throughout the scene also.
