Human Diastrophism Notes

- There seems to be a reoccurring theme of dichotomy between male and female figures, perhaps to show the softer side of femininity with the contrasting harshness of masculinity?

- Focusing on subjects' expressions rather than facial/outfit details emphasizes the mood, in this case, of fear, horror, and awe.

  1. Fortunately, you did a lot of the analyzing already. I think you are right when you talk about the framing of faces to emphasize their expressions and the line depth distinguishing between masculinity and femininity. I would note that in the second to last frame, the male character's torso region is framed where as the woman's is not. In fact, in all of the frames with those two characters, the male is always standing above her and his facial expressions are clearly not as important as hers. This may help you continue your analysis of the masculinity and femininity of this book.

  2. You did really well analyzing this. I love your ideas on both the the dichotomy between men and women, and how the expressions emphasize what is happening in the panels. I think you could into more detail on both of those ideas separately, but also look at them together to see how men and women are viewed differently.

  3. I really like how to organized your analysis is. It was very easy for me to find each explanation and i agree with the theme that you seem to have found. I think maybe you could go into a little more detail explaining why you think it is showing females as softer and males as harsher. Overall you did a really good job and made this page make a lot more sense to me.
