Monstress Panel Analysis

  1. Why do the lines on the animals represent opposite emotions of the same style lines on the conversants?
Also, what is intended by the artist begining with a picture (almost) only panel, and then shifting to relying words? Is this because of the mental state of Malka in those panels?

  2. The lines of Maika truly define what she is feeling. Although her face is almost smooth the way her outline is drawn throughout the page shows that although she may be an young innocent girl there is something deep down that is hurting her like finding her friend. Is there a reason Maika is draw with such straights lines as if she is as stiff as a board? I mean she can't believe what the cat says to her but do the lines mean more than being baffled by the news? It is up to interpretation of what Maika may look to the reader whether it be distraught or scheming.

  3. Notice how the lines of Maika are bolded compared to the other characters. This may show her emotions, or it may represent the god living inside her. The god is bolded when he is present and his colors are dark, her being bolded and darker in color compared to the other characters may represent the evil inside of her.
