5: No shading and very simple
1 to 2 Subject to Subject: The time does not change but the focus shift goes from Grace’s sister to Grace
Slow: The time length in each panel is the same and they all feel moderate in slowness and not rushed despite the sisters being in a rush to leave.
Smooth lines create an emotional scene and gives the sense that the characters are emotionally and physically drained.

5: No shading and very simple
2 to 3 Action to Action: The focus stays on Grace but it is more of a “movie edit” feel because we go from the back of her head to the front of her face.
Slow: Time feels slow in this panel because of the visible pieces of dust floating in the air.
The dust particles are the only things in this panel that don’t feel smooth.

4.5: Very simple but small shading on the cheeks to imply blushing
3 to 4 Subject to Subject: There is not a change time but the panels do shift locations and characters
Slow: This panel feel the quickest out of them all, however it’s still slow. The dialogue makes it seem slightly quicker.
Overall the lines are smooth except for on the edge of the clothing and this just gives the feeling that the clothes are worn.
The words/images are additive because the speech amplifies Grace’s sister’s urgency but also Grace’s patience on Mia.

Slow: Time feel slow because there are no words and you can feel Mia’s weakness.
The smooth lines help the reader see Mia’s emotional and physical weakness in this moment.

I think you could use this panel to really shine a light on Grace's character and her actions throughout the novel. She is such an interesting and patient character and very crucial for Mia's development.
ReplyDeleteThe timing in the scene can be greatly used to feel the fatigue Mia is going through. I would contiue to analyze the lines as well because that might have something to do with making the scene feeling longer or more dragged out.
ReplyDeleteI think another idea you can address is the transitions, they seem a bit dramatic. Since their is little words, the pictures and the way they are presented tell a lot.
